Cosplay

3 min read
I was going to post this on my Facebook page but I figured this community might be more versed in it.

I have followed cosplay for the better part of the last 2-3 years and even attended a couple of comic cons in the Seattle area. I got to meet Yaya Han last year and that was a dream (she wasn't in costume but hey costumes don't translate to business meetings well). There is a list of others I wish to meet over the coming years.

Anyway to my point, I have decided that I want to venture out and create my own first cosplay for ECCC 2014 (wasn't able to get my stuff together for last year so we're trying again). While I do have the drive and the passion to create the character I have one thing that holds me back, my wife. Lets just say not everyone in my family is as accepted of my passion as others. If you have ever seen my pics all my comic stuff sits at my desk at work, all my passion for comics and characters is reserved for work (and my co-workers love it!). I don't express ANY of my love for comics at home because it's not supported. So when I decided to finally do a cosplay for comic con I was greeted with great backlash on the subject.

"No you can't work on it at home! No you're wasting money on a stupid costume just you can look like those other nerds and embarrass me! (mind you she's afraid I'll make the news or something in costume and be identified). Why can't you just grow up and be an adult and quit liking all this stupid kids stuff?"

How do you express a love for a character you want to cosplay as at an event you look forward to every year when no one at home supports the idea of it. Now I will admit that I didn't come out guns blazing about my love of comics when I first met my wife slowly revealed my love for it, and thus that's why she's probably so mad about it. But my 5 y/o daughter loves comics, knows characters by sight when we look at pics from other cons or when I'm playing games like Marvel Heroes or DCUO she knows the iconic characters and asks me who others are.

Does anyone else out there get met with this kind of resentment for cosplay from your own family? How do you deal with it and how can I work with her to make the costume and spend the little amount of money I need to to get some things so I can finally be the superhero I know I am inside?

UNBELIEVABLE!

1 min read
I've been waiting 3 months for my sister to edit my paper(craft) hero so I can print it build it and then upload it for others to use, and she finally sends me the document and SHE MADE NO EDITS!

I mean I clearly put in there remove these lines from the helmet and please make this mask all red (not with the black marks). I mean come on!

Now I have to figure out what I am going to do. this was really disappointing because I've been waiting so long to finish this. I seriously am thinking I'm just going to design one completely from scratch and then scan my new one to upload for digital coloring, but I want the colors to look right so maybe I will see if someone else can help me (because I'm no good with shades).

If interested let me know, for now I got some more editing to do.

*sigh*

ECCC 2013

2 min read
Okay so I returned from ECCC 2013 on Saturday afternoon and to my delight it was a great success. The added floor space made the crowds a little more wide spread and not as packed. They expanded from the two floors to the entire convention center (over 13,000 sq ft of added space)

The cosplay present was great and congrats to all of you who were able to pull it off so successfully. The artists were wonderful great to talk to and I went home with a few new pieces to add to my desk collection for work.

My personal highlight was getting to meet Yaya Han :iconyayacosplay:. Gorgeous woman and wonderful to talk to. Shame I didn't get to see her in one of her beautiful cosplays but as she told me, when you have an early business meeting you have to make appearances, and sometimes the costumes just add too much time.

Overall I would say it was a great weekend. Looking forward already to next year, and hope to see some new friends next year that were not able to make it out this year.

Premium Day

2 min read
I have enjoyed thus far the day of Premium membership and it might just prompt me to strive to get one, and maybe even start putting up some of my own art that I have stored away. Then again, I might become to lazy and never do any of it. Either way, today was a great day in DA history.
